"When we don't know where we're headed, many things seem pointless. Lack of direction can be one of the greatest sources of depression. If we clarify what happiness looks like, the whole picture changes."
"Life coaching" is a term I don't particularly like. I feel it conjures up a sense that a person is broken or helpless. I prefer to think of this work as "life hacking": crafting an elegant, strategic, and exceptionally personalized approach to creating forward motion.
Often, the same roadblocks we had when we were young stay with us well into adulthood. Those roadblocks take many forms; a tendency to second guess ourselves; fear of failure; fear of success; lack of direction; lack of passion; procrastination; etc. etc.. When we can (together) identify and understand what it is that holds us back (as well as where it came from and how to overcome it), amazing things happen.
One of the first thing I ask new clients is, "If our work together was a smashing success, what would that look like?" Sometimes, a huge, seemingly unattainable goal is put on the table. Other times, it's something more in line with "I just don't feel passionate about anything," "I hate my job," or "I don't seem to have any direction". Whatever it is, that's our true north. Each session is in service of achieving your goal.
Combining the goals-and-results approach of coaching with the next-level emotional and relational skills of Relational Life Therapy gives us an arsenal from which to draw. The style and focus of our work may shift from pragmatic to therapeutic. My role may shift from educator to strategist to cheerleader. We'll go wherever we need to to get you to the place where you are empowered, motivated and excited to achieve your dreams.
